Think before you join the GBC or any other league!

... I often see and have made a post that says, League needs owners. I get many replies to them also. I've been in one league and I am a commissioner in another. I know that all of us have varying amount of time in our lives, so don't think I'm busting anyone's case here. My biggest problem as a member of a league and especially as a commissioner are would be owners who join a league and then do NOTHING.

I'm not saying you have to have a 10meg web page, but for goodness sake you should attend some drafts, or reply promptly to emails. If you don't think you have the time for a league then don't join. It makes it very hard for other owners and especially the commissioner to maintain a well run organization.

If you join a league you will probably at a minimum need to be able to spend three to five hours per week. There may be times when you need to spend some more. That doesn't mean that only couch potatoes or those with no life can join a league. In my own case, I have a very full time job as an educator, coach sports teams through the school year, teach summer school, oversee and coordinate all of the athletic events in my school, chaperone school events, and have four kids. That is beyond the everyday things of life that I have to do. I'm not boasting; I'm just asking you to do the people who put a GREAT deal of time into the leagues in many cases, and while it is a labor of love that brings a great degree of satisfaction, a huge favor.

Consider if you really want to join a league and commit to it to some degree.
